Kathie and Diane's European adventure continued in Delft, The Netherlands! What a beautiful little city. It has the canals, wooden shoes, gorgeous buildings, and the friendly Dutch people. What it does not have is the crowds of Amsterdam! That's not such a bad thing.
| You MUST get a pic in the wooden shoe! |
| We were blessed with a really gorgeous day! |
| I love having a coffee outside with my girlfriends. Life is good! |
| Cutie! |
| Say CHEESE!! |
| Well, alright... |
| Picture perfect! LOVE! |
| The Girl with the Pearl Earring was painted by Vermeer, who is from Delft. Her image is all over the town! The painting is actually in The Hague. |
It was the most perfect day to see the windmills in Kinderdijk.
| Strolling through the flowers and windmills. So cute! |
| We asked a very nice, older woman to take our picture with all of the windmills. Well, she got one. :) |
| So we asked some 20 somethings to take one. Much better! |
| Peace Out Holland! |
Next stop…PARIS!
| Notre Dame |
| There are still locks on the bridge behind Notre Dame. |
| The Pope…located between Notre Dame and the Seine. |
My favorite view of the Eiffel Tower is from the top of the Arc de Triomphe!
| Sigh..... |
| Me with my favorite! |
| And, my other favorites! |
Just a little stroll to the Moulin Rouge.
| You're not in Morton anymore kids. |
We stopped to see St. Chapelle. This gorgeous church has been under construction since before we moved to Europe. Instant tears when we walked in, and I saw the scaffolding was gone! The renovation was complete, and it was breathtaking!
| The outside is beautiful as well, and now all nice and clean. |
Axe Historique
| Long before the days of computers and Caterpillar tractors, people were able to build and perfectly align the Arc de Triomphe, the obelisk in Place de la Concorde, Place du Carrousel, and the Grand Arche of La Défense (not visible.) Amazing! |
| Perfect! :) |
Monet's Nymphéas (Water lilies) are gorgeous! Eight paintings are divided between two rooms in the Musée de l'Orangerie.
| The guard is important here. She shows just how large the paintings really are. |
Musée d'Orsay
| For me, capturing the painter's signature is almost as exciting as the painting! |
The roses in the gardens of the Rodin Museum were just stunning.
| Just thinkin'……. |
Lunch on the Île Saint-Louis!
| Lunch was good, but the waiter was rude. I really have had very good luck with the French in Paris. I think they get a really bad and undeserved reputation. But this guy, well, he fit the typical French description. No picture of sassy, rude man....just my sweet friends. |
| Walking along the Champs Élysées! |
| Shoe goals! |
Montmartre and the Sacre Coeur.
| Be jealous! |
More fun with the Eiffel Tower!
| That is a tennis ball for the French Open hanging in the middle. |
| We took shelter under one of the bridges when a huge rainstorm hit! Good thing you can't smell on this blog. Ugh! |
| Boat ride along the Seine. |
| Freezing our booties off! |
| Sunny mornings in Paris make me happy! |
A stop at the Louvre!
| It looks like we are the only ones there. Ha! |
| There is no shortage of ridiculously large and amazing paintings in the Louvre. |
| My favorite view in the Louvre. |
| Wendy, Kathie, Diane. LOL! |
| Strolling through the Tuileries. |
| Hehehehe! |
| You can't leave Paris without a little shopping! :) |
One more special day in Belgium for these girls. Stay tuned!
Until next time,
Wendy
